The Canterbury Earthquakes destroyed one of the original bungalows on the Christchurch Port hills beyond repair and Architecture Studio was engaged to replicate the original building to exact architectural details from the ground up, with some minor Client requested enhancements. Weeks were spent site measuring the damaged building and reviewing original photos and drawings to ensure the original building was replaced visually as near as possible while designing the building to modern construction methods and materials. New Zealand native tree species were sourced to replicate the original building. The original concrete tiles were replaced with lightweight composite shingles for a safer alternative but still providing a similar visual appearance. A solar heating system was replaced for efficient radiator heating throughout the building.
The pool, sleep out, car port and retaining walls were also replaced to new higher engineering standards. This project is under construction and near completion.
